Rugby for Little Ones!
Rugbytots® is the UK’s first rugby specific play programme for young children, using the
multiple skills of rugby to create a fun and enjoyable environment, whilst developing basic core motor skills. Classes are split into three age groups: -
2 to 3½ years
Encourages children to use core skills of balance, agility and co-ordination, as well as developing social skills. Includes passing, catching, scoring tries and kicking. Games use foam rugby balls, to ensure safety.
3½ to 5 years
Builds on core motor skills, and looks at some of more specific skills used in Rugby, such as finding space, scoring a try, passing the ball backwards.
5 to 7 years
Continues to teach the essential basic skills of the game, but children start to learn why these skills are important, such as why do we find space, or hold the ball in two hands.

New Directions – new job, improved confidence, courses for all

Realising my creative ambitions…
Arleen Wild (pictured) had always been interested and enjoyed art textiles and fashion. Sadly her first attempt at a self funded Fashion Design Degree course at university in the West Indies was not completed due to financial constraints.
After emigrating to the UK, Arleen’s full time job was in IT which enabled her to return to studying a City and Guilds Embroidery and Textiles course. She successfully completed both the certificate and diploma courses.
In 2007 Arleen decided to embark on a course at New Directions in Reading and enrolled on to City and Guilds course in Fashion Design at the West Reading Centre.
“I have always been interested in art textiles and fashion, my first attempt at a self funded university place failed but I knew that someday I would return,” she says.

“Most of my qualifications have been gained through Adult Learning, it has given me the chance to realise my ambitions and allowed me to combine work and family life with learning.”
Over the years Arleen has taken part in a number of exhibitions, community projects, fashion shows and has sold her creations nationally and internationally.
Arleen is currently completing a City and Guilds Teacher Training course at New Directions and has began to teach her very own course in embroidery and textiles at the North Reading Centre in Caversham.
“As well as teaching at New Directions I’m also working on a collection of textile art pieces for upcoming exhibitions including the Reading Arts Week Exhibition.”
